Talking about…
In this section we give you support to talk about topics. You will see that this is organised by the age of your child and then within each age group there are topics you might want to talk about. You will find things like suggestions about what to say when you chat, online content to look at together or book suggestions.
When you look for a topic, we suggest that you start with the age (chronological age) of your child, then find the topic. For example, if your child is 11 years old, go to the 11–12-year-old section and look for the topic that is of interest to you. However, you know your child, and so if you feel your child is quite young for their age, or perhaps they have a disability that affects how they understand things, you can also look at the younger age group too. For that matter, your child may be mature for their age, and so you might need to check out the Talking About section for an older child. You will also see that some topics appear across the different age groups. This will be because the chat you have with your child might be different the younger or older they are.
